Star Wars: Episode VII trailer

The first teaser trailer for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII has been unveiled, and I’m very excited! What I think is so great about this trailer is how it manages to be instantly recognizable as Star Wars, and yet still feel fresh and up-to-date. In particular, the closeup photography of the Stormtroopers feels quite gritty and contemporary, not the kind of shot we would have seen from George Lucas. I think that J.J. Abrams has a good track record on rebooting franchises, and I have high hopes that he will deliver on this.

This beautiful, if dark and very violent, animation is definitely worth a watch. It’s an anime-style Star Wars homage taking place on an underground train, directed by SeanSoong. And it certainly will make me more conscious of giving up my seat so someone more in need of it next time I am riding the subway.

Jeremy Messersmith – Tatooine

In honor of the release of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace 3D, here is the most 2D version of the original trilogy that you have ever seen.

This paper cut out animation from Eric Power is a music video for Jeremy Messersmith‘s charming ballad Tatooine. It’s a sweet retelling of the Star Wars fable, and a nice contrast from the ever-more-digital versions being released by Lucasfilm.
